ABI stands for Ankle-Brachial Index, a simple yet highly effective diagnostic test used to assess the circulation in the lower limbs, specifically in the legs. The Hadeco Smartdop XT is an ABI Doppler, also known as an ankle-brachial Doppler, is a medical device that employs Doppler ultrasound technology to measure blood pressure and blood flow in the ankle and arm. The test compares the blood pressure in the ankle to that in the arm, and the results can provide critical information about the presence and severity of PAD.
A blood pressure cuff is wrapped around the upper arm, and another cuff is placed around the ankle, just above the malleolus (the bony prominence of the ankle). The Doppler ultrasound probe is applied to the skin over the arteries at various locations. This probe uses high-frequency sound waves to measure blood flow. The cuffs are inflated to temporarily stop blood flow, and the Hadeco Smartdop XT probe records the sounds of blood flow as the cuffs are slowly deflated. The point at which blood flow is detected in the ankle is compared to the blood pressure in the arm. The ABI is calculated by dividing the ankle systolic pressure by the brachial (arm) systolic pressure.
The Hadeco Smartdop XT is a fully automatic total vascular testing system for ABI and TBI studies. Hadeco Smartdop will perform Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) testing and Toe Brachial Index (TBI) testing for greater accuracy in diabetic patients.
